Dear Neighbors of Balch Springs,
As a 15-year resident of Balch Springs, I WANT TO BE YOUR MAYOR. I have a vision that I know can make a difference for this great city. As a mother, a wife, and a long-time resident, I care about this city and plan to bring about effective change. With my education and professional work experience, we can make Balch Springs a city that is a home for us and a destination place for others. My vision for Balch Springs is to demonstrate that we can move forward with a city government that will show its citizens:
· Accountability
· Fiscal Responsibility
· Capital Improvement / Infrastructure
· Economic Development
· Master Planning (Land Use, Zoning, Housing, etc.)
· Public Safety
· Community Advocates / Social Service Initiates
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Bishop College, a Master of Arts Degree in Political Economy from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Administration and Management from Columbia Pacific University. With over 22 years of service as a Senior Planner with the City of Dallas, I have worked in the areas of Housing and Development Services. This professional work experience has helped me benefit my community as a member of the Hilltop Homeowners Association (served as a Vice-Chair); Planning and Zoning Commission (10 years, served as Chair and Vice-Chair); Charter Review Commission (served as Chair, 2002 and 2008); and Chamber of Commerce (served as Chair). In addition, I assisted the City of Balch Springs staff in updating the Balch Springs Master Plan, spearheaded the Balch Springs East Annexation Area Plan, and established the Zoning Ordinance Review Committee.
My professional affiliations are with the Balch Springs Chamber of Commerce, American Planning Association, National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (The Grammy®Awards, voting member), and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. I am also a professional vocalist with the Dr. Larry "T-Byrd" Gordon Orchestra/Show Band (Grammy Nominee). My family has sponsored and participated in community events such as the Dr. Larry "T-Byrd" Gordon Cultural Arts Series, Lil’ Larry Annual Basketball Tournaments, Baylor University Send-Off; and we have hosted a number of events at various Balch Springs facilities.
I pledge to you, citizens of Balch Springs, that when you elect me on May 9, I will devote my time and energy to meet all the pledges made to improve the quality of life, bring about city unity, and plan wisely for the future of this great city. I ask for your vote and your financial support.
